Drill collar is an effective anti-deviation drilling tool, with high drill pressure used in oblique areas, rectifying oblique as well. When drilling directional wells eccentric-weight drill collar is an effective tool to reduce oblique or straighten the well hole using high drilling pressure.
Drill Collars are integral heavy-wall joints that are manufactured from a solid bar of modified alloy steel. The solid bars are quenched and tempered to obtain the required mechanical properties, then trepanned, drifted and threaded. All drill collars are heat-treated with hardness within 285 to 341 BHN, which are guaranteed one inch below the surface of the pipe.
It is used below the drill string and put drill pressure to the drill bit; ensure the necessary strength under compressive stress condition; reduce the shock quake, swing and bounce of drill bit and remain steady of the bit when working; and control the well deviation as well.
